A FINNISH sculptor is presenting an exhibition of her works at the University of Hertfordshire Galleries.

Starting today (Saturday), Heli Ryhänen's sculptures will be displayed in a show entitled Evil Shepherd.

Ryhänen creates her sculptures from fabric, steel, light and shadow, generating a familiar human presence examining our collective experience of happiness, fear, loneliness and tension.

In this way she creates an atmosphere which, at first appears dreamlike and familiar but which, in a moment, can become ambivalent, unfamiliar and strangely contorted.

The exhibition includes work with titles like Encapsulation, Connection in Confidence and The Wait.

Encapsulation is a study in attraction and repulsion as an entwined elderly couple hug each other close and simultaneously appear to push each other away.

Audiences can view the work at the Hatfield-based university until February 21.

Opening times are 9.30am until 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday. Entry is free.
