THOUSANDS of people flocked to Hatfield House over a three-day ‘weekend’ for the stately home’s annual Country Show.

And for a change this summer, the weather was hot and bright for the entire event.

Nick Moorhouse, operations director at the Hertfordshire stately estate, said: “Our annual Hatfield Country Show took place between Friday and Sunday and despite the oppressive weather, the show enjoyed a very good turnout.

“It is heartening to see so many families and particularly children enjoying the dozens of shows in the main arena and hundreds of animals on show.

“Some highlights included the East Herts Pony Club, whose members dressed from head to toe in Union Flags and whose ride was accompanied by stirring patriotic music, the record number of entrants to the sheep show and the growing popularity of the number of people learning how to fish on The New Pond.

“Lord Salisbury was delighted that so many people from Hatfield and the surrounding area attended the show and looks forward to welcoming them back to Hatfield Park throughout the forthcoming year.”
