AN armed robber forced his way into a house, terrifying the occupants with a sawn-off shotgun, before stealing a BMW, cash and a haul of jewellery worth £150,000.

The pair were confronted by the gunman on Friday and made to open the safe.

Cash and a set of car keys for a silver BMW Z3 were snatched during the attack, in Northaw, at about 10am.

More than 25 pieces of jewellery were taken including pearls, rubies and diamonds, a Cartier watch and Bulgari earrings.

The gunman fled in the BMW - registration HS16 - along Coopers Lane, Northaw.

Insurance company Evergreen is now offering a reward of up to £30,000 for information leading to the arrest, conviction and recovery of the undamaged property.

Pc Kevin McEleavey is investigating and said: "I am appealing for members of the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area prior to the incident.

"Or may have seen the distinctive silver BMW Z3 driving, possibly erratically, in the Northaw area or has any information about the crime to please come forward."

Pc McEleavey added: "We are also very keen to trace the jewellery so please get in touch if you can help."

Police would not reveal personal details or the property address to protect the safety of the victims, a man and a woman.

Call police with information on 0845 33 00 222.
