THERE could be light at the end of the tunnel for one club's bid to save the state of their pitches.

Welwyn Rugby Club have applied for planning permission to install four new floodlights which they say will help keep their pitches in better condition.

Club secretary Malcolm Tucker said: "At the moment we only have one pitch which is floodlit and that pitch gets absolutely hammered all the time.

"We play and train on the one pitch and by installing floodlights on another pitch it will mean we will be able to give one of the pitches a rest and help keep them in better condition."

The plan for the club's base in Hobbs Way, WGC, will be discussed by borough councillors at a future planning committee.
