Welwyn Hatfield Council was due to clear up as many as 40 bags of rubbish today after the mess was left in a Hatfield car park.

The car park had been occupied by a large group of travellers, who arrived on Monday, April 2.

In total there were 12 caravans and 12 vehicles.

Among the group were 30 children.

The council then served an eviction notice on the group.

A council spokesman said: “The travellers left Link Drive car park on Saturday afternoon.

“There were between 30-40 bags of rubbish left on site, which have been scheduled for clearance today (Monday, April 9).

“In this case we will not be pursuing [a flytipping] prosecution.

“There was no damage to the car park.”
