Children in hospital will unwrap books, toys and other gifts on Christmas day thanks to a generous donation from a Welwyn Garden City secondary school.

Ridgeway Academy spent three weeks collecting items from the public to donate to the children’s ward at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, before sports centre manager Ross Goodship and duty manager Regan Carolan visited on Tuesday, December 11.

They handed over 170 gifts including books, clothes, games and toys, which will be wrapped by staff and given to children on Christmas Day and on birthdays throughout the year.

“It was a great honour to visit the children’s ward at Lister Hospital on behalf of Ridgeway Academy,” Mr Goodship said.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who promoted or contributed to our collection.

“A special thank you to Jolly Readers - Scholastic Book Champion for their support, raising over £50 worth of books!”

This is the third year Ridgeway Academy has donated to the hospital, for a total of 350 gifts.

“It was great to see all of the amazing work that East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity do,” Mr Goodship said.

“We look forward to working with them throughout 2019 and we will of course be looking to donate even more toys next year.”
