A wide range of views about a proposed major housing development on the edge of Welwyn Garden City was aired at a well-attended consultation event this afternoon.

At least 40 people attended the first day of Tarmac’s “Community Consultation Weekend” at the Homestead Court hotel in Homestead Lane.

While several people said they were firmly opposed, the company won some praise as well for its outline proposals for “Birchall Garden Suburb”, 2,500 homes immediately west of the A414.

The consultation will resume at 10am tomorrow, with Tarmac encouraging local people to view its plans and contribute their ideas.
