REFURBISHMENT work costing 500,000 is set to begin at Potters Bar railway station later this month.

Rail operator First Capital Connect (FCC) is spending the money to improve the station's subway.

The work, which is expected to be completed by October, will see the subway walls re-cladded and new ceilings installed.

The handrails and stairways will also be upgraded.

Belen Martinez, property and projects director at FCC, said: "Our plans for the subway have been designed to improve access and safety for our customers.

"This project follows on from the forecourt redevelopment and new customer information screens recently added, so by autumn, Potters Bar station will be significantly improved.
