Welwyn Hatfield’s Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising committee is celebrating a record-breaking year, in which it raised £32,344 in 2013.

The committee has been supporting the charity’s appeal to raise £1.5m to build the new Macmillan Cancer Centre at the Lister Hospital, in Stevenage.

Françoise Austin, chairman of the Welwyn Hatfield Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising committee, thanked supporters for their “immense generosity”.

Lyn Crowe, Hertfordshire and Essex area fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “The Welwyn Hatfield committee has been an invaluable contributor to Macmillan for over 20 years.

“Every year we couldn’t do the work we do for people affected by cancer in Hertfordshire without their dedication and enduring support.

“2013 was a particularly successful year for the committee and I’d like to say a huge thank you for all the committee members’ unwavering support which is helping to make this new cancer centre a reality for the benefit of everybody in East and North Hertfordshire.”
