JURORS trying the case of a Woolmer Green businessman accused of rape have been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

Self-employed Ian Mitchell, 38, of Mardlebury Court was on trial for rape over an alleged attack on a woman, now 25, at his home in the summer of last year.

The pair had been drinking together and taking cocaine before the alleged rape took place in Mitchell’s bed.

But despite deliberating for two days, the jury at Cambridge Crown Court was unable to reach a verdict and there will now be a retrial in August.
