REFEREE Mark Halsey’s long-awaited return to league football last night (Tuesday) was postponed due to heavy rain.

The official, who was born and raised in WGC, had been due to take charge of his first league match since beating throat cancer in December.

However, a huge downpour in the North West forced Halsey to postpone yesterday’s League Two match between Accrington Stanley and Barnet before a ball was even kicked.

Halsey, 48, will now make his comeback this Saturday when Rotherham take on Port Vale at The Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.
