Panicked mechanics in Welwyn Garden City got a Halloween fright, when a false widow spider scuttled into their workshop.

The black widow-related arachnid – Britain’s most poisonous spider – made an appearance this afternoon (Thursday), at the Kwik Fit branch in Bridge Road East.

A Kwik Fit fitter snapped the quick flitting critter before it vanished out of sight.

He told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “It ran off unfortunately, it’s gone outside now.

“I saw it outside, I managed to get a picture and that was it.

“I wasn’t able to get hold of it.

“There’s a load of rave about it [the invasion of false widow spiders].”

But the brave worker added: “There’s nothing dangerous about it.”

Another worker at the site said: “We’ve seen a few of them in here.”
