Official beacons blazed over Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield yesterday in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Two beacons were lit on the 5th floor balcony of Campus West, one by Councillor Lynne Sparks, mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Mayor, and one by her husband Ian

Sparks.

Councillor Sparks also read a message from the Prince of Wales.

She said: “It was a real honour to mark this occasion for our borough, and watch as The Campus lit up from the roof of the Campus West building.

“We were delighted to be able to recognise Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and celebrate her decades of service to our country.”

A similar beacon was lit in the gardens of Hatfield House by Lord Salisbury.

More than 1,000 beacons were lit across Britain to mark the royal birthday.
