THE QE2 has been chosen to house the new general hospital in Welwyn Hatfield, the WHT can exclusively reveal.

A decision which of three sites would be picked as the PCT's preferred choice was expected to be announced today.

But the WHT was given advance notice as we went to press yesterday afternoon.

The WGC hospital was chosen primarily because it could be located next to other services such as the Isabel Hospice and the Vicki Adkins Breast Unit.

PCT chief executive Anne Walker said: "We will continue to work with patient and public representatives as we move forward with the development of the local general hospital to make sure that we plan services which will really meet the needs of local people.
