PUBLIC rights of way will be the focus of a debate tonight (Wednesday).

Hertfordshire Local Access Forum is inviting anyone with an interest in the topic to go the University of Hertfordshire at 7.30pm.

The forum, which was set up in 2003, is made up of a group of volunteers representing user groups, landowners and local government organisations.

Its role is to advise the county council and other organisations on issues to do with public access to the countryside.

It holds regular public meetings to discuss these issues and this, in turn, helps inform the way in which rights of way are managed across the county, now and in the future.

Among members' achievements so far are their contribution to the county's Rights of Way Improvement Plan and their active participation in the planning processes behind major developments where provision of public access has been an issue.

The meeting is in Room B154, at the College Lane campus in Hatfield, and will run until 9.45pm
