Homeowners trying to get ancient rights over their land removed demonstrated in Hatfield today (Wednesday) as they tried to escalate a local protest into a national campaign.

About 50 people waving placards gathered at the gates to Hatfield House on Wednesday morning to voice their anger at manorial rights asserted by the Marquess of Salisbury, and campaign leader Amanda White read a “proclamation”.

She declaimed: “Manorial rights represent the last vestige of the feudal system - there is no place for them in 21st century Britain. Indeed, Scotland had already abolished them.”
