Prolific Welwyn Garden City shoplifter given community order

A prolific Welwyn Garden City shoplifter has been ordered to take part in a drug dependency programme.
David Nicholas, 49, of Heayfields, Welwyn Garden City, appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court charged with a series of offences.
He admitted possession of seven wraps of crack in the town on July 20 and failing to turn up to St Albans Magistrates’ Court on August 4.
Nicholas also pleaded guilty to theft offences ranging from make-up to cider.
He stole three boxes of Strongbow worth £24 from Co-op in WGC on February 21.
On March 15, he took two bottles of Coke and a box of Milk Tray worth £10.18 from Co-op in WGC.
He targeted Superdrug in WGC on April 15 and 22, stealing and attempting to steal Maybelline cosmetics.
On September 7, he was back in WGC, this time stealing confectionary from WHSmith and an item from Boots.
The following day, he was in court where magistrates gave him a community order to have treatment for drug dependency over the course of six months.
Nicholas must also take part in up to 15 days’ activity as directed by a responsible officer.
Ordered to pay £265.18 in compensation and £85 to victim services.
