Traffic is currently snarled northbound on the A1(M) due to a fire between Junction 6 (Welwyn) and Junction 7 (Stevenage).
Calls were made to the emergency services just after 9am to reports of a car transporter that was on fire.
Fire crews from Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage are currently on the scene, together with police.
A police spokeswoman reported the fire now seems to be out but there is no indication as to how long the delays will last.
