Potters Bar's MP has been re-elected as the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Jews at its annual meeting.
Conservative MP for Hertsmere Oliver Dowden was given the vote of confidence by the group, which aims to broaden the connections between Parliament and the UK’s Jewish community.
This will be Mr Dowden’s second year in the post. Speaking afterward the confirmation he said: “I was honoured and delighted to be re-elected as Chair of the APPG for British Jews.
“Over the last year I have robustly stood up for the interests of the Jewish community. I have been vocal in opposing prejudice, anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment.
“This has included interventions at Prime Minister’s Questions, Foreign and Home Office Questions, as well as lobbying Ministers.”
He added: “I was also proud to help the work of the Holocaust Educational Trust, including hosting local Holocaust survivors from my constituency in Parliament.
“As that generation begins to pass away, it’s important that we never forget the lessons of history.”
