Potters Bar residents have thrown their support behind a woman in her 60s after her bag was snatched in a park.

The victim was sitting on a bench near the lower lake in Oakmere Park when three young boys started chatting to her.

A man then reportedly snatched her shopping bag, which had her purse with around £200 in it, before running off.

However, following the robbery between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday, June 16, residents started fundraising.

Jill Hellary, who runs a Potters Bar Facebook group, said: “A big thank you to all the people who have made donations to help the lady who had her bag snatched in Oakmere Park on Saturday.

“If you would like to make a donation, Chris Cook, Gill Englefield (two admins of the Facebook group) and me are raising money for the lady. You can make your donation at The Chequers Pub.”

She added: “People who Live in Chace Avenue, Oakmere Lane, High Street, Highview Gardens or The Grove please check your CCTV cameras for the time mentioned.”

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting crime reference 41/8251/18.
