Potters Bar residents are warned to expect a second explosion after another bomb was unearthed today.

Police are responding to a second report of an unexploded shell found in a garden in Potters Bar today.

They are warning residents that a further controlled explosion will take place this afternoon as a result.

Officers received a report of a second device found in a garden in Park Avenue at 11.30am today, in the same location as an identical device was found yesterday.

Police are again working with the Explosives Ordinance Disposal team to make the object safe, which is believed to be 18 pound mortar shell, dating from the World War 2.

Yesterday’s device was moved to a nearby field before the disposal team conducted a controlled explosion early this morning in order to make it safe.

Residents are warned that the same process is planned for the new shell found today. This will take place from 3pm onwards.

Checks for further devices at the same location will be made by EOD team.
