A POTTERS Bar firefighter, who plans to hang in a perspex box suspended above London this afternoon (Friday) for charity, will be hoping to get a better reception than US magician David Blaine.

The illusionist famously did the feat in 2003 for 40 days near London’s City Hall.

But Blaine was targeted by rogue egg-throwers and was even taunted by people with toy helicopters, who buzzed the ravenous star’s plexiglass box with bags of fast food.

But, rather than purely making an exhibition of themselves firefighters David Hunt and Jon Wordsworth, will be literally ‘hanging around’ for the Fire Fighters Charity and Cancer Research UK and are hoping to raise 20,000.

The perspex box, containing David, will be dangled 30ft from the ground over London’s Oxford Street from a mobile crane stationed at nearby Old Cavendish Street.

David will be encased in the box for 48 hours, without food from 12pm tomorrow.

Water is available to the occupant to prevent dehydration; he will have a port a potty and a poncho to cover him whilst relieving his bladder.

Full fire kit will be worn in the box, with a sleeping bag provided to prevent hypothermia.

The second event, scheduled for February, will be Jon’s turn in the box and will be at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield.

As well as their plastic box exploits the pair will be trekking Peru in 2011 to raise money for their chosen charities.
