The smouldering remains of a fire which burned for four days in Potters Bar were put out last night by heavy rainfall.

At 7pm last night (Monday) fire crews inspected the scene in Baker Street and closed the incident as rain was predicted.

“We let nature take its own pathway,” said watch commander Wordsworth, from Potters Bar fire station.

The stop message came through at 7.14pm.

The blaze, which started on Friday morning, started after hay caught fire in a field.
