Potters Bar driver killed in bridge collision

A POTTERS Bar driver has been killed after he was involved in a crash on a bridge.
The 55-year-old died following a collision between a Volkswagen Polo and a lorry on the bridge which runs over the River Arun, in Littlehampton, Sussex, this afternoon (Monday).
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene (the A259), and the man was cut free by firefighters, but was declared dead at the scene.
A male passenger was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital at Brighton with serious injuries; a second man was taken to Worthing Hospital with minor injuries.
The bridge was completely blocked by the collision and the road remained closed into the rush hour. Police thanked drivers for their patience and stressed that authorities were working as quickly as possible to investigate the collision, clear the scene and ensure that the area was safe to re-open.
