A POTTERS Bar councillor has been named the new mayor of Hertsmere.

Cllr Peter Knell, who represents the town’s Furzefield ward, was named borough mayor for the year 2011/12 at the annual ceremony held at Hertsmere Borough Council’s head offices in Borehamwood last night (Wednesday).

The Conservative councillor took over the chains from Cllr Linda Silver, having served as her deputy for the past 12 months.

At the full council meeting inside the council chambers, Cllr Knell said: “I wear this chain with pride, and I will carry the name of Hertsmere Borough Council with that same pride to every engagement myself and my wife June attend this year.”

Borehamwood councillor Pat Strack was also elected deputy mayor at the meeting.
