THREE men have been arrested for stealing copper wiring in Potters Bar.

A Barnet Road resident contacted the police after she became suspicious of men loading the wiring into a van at 9pm on Thursday.

The trio were subsequently arrested for theft.

A 31-year-old man from Essex, a 22-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, both from Suffolk, were arrested by officers in Stagg Hill. The 22-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.

They are on conditional police bail, which prohibits them from entering Hertfordshire, pending further enquiries.

Detective sergeant Yvonne Carroll from the local crime unit said: “I’d like to thank the resident for contacting us when she became suspicious about the copper wiring being taken at night. It meant we were able to make quick arrests.”

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
