Police have released CCTV images of a man officers want to speak to after a conman tricked a shop worker into giving him £40.

The theft happened at the Co-op in Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City, at around 8pm on Sunday, September 14.

A man entered the store and bought a bottle of orange juice.

He then asked the cashier to exchange notes into coins, and then back into notes.

The man tricked the cashier into giving him an extra £40. He then left the shop.

PC Gavin Richardson, who is investigating, said: “The man has used tactics to confuse the cashier and trick them into giving him extra cash.

“I would like to speak to the man pictured as he may have information which could assist our investigation.

“I would also appeal to anyone else who was in the shop at the time and saw what happened to contact me.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Richardson via the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference B1/14/2735.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
