Police have warned dog owners to abide by the law and ensure their dogs wear a collar.

It is still a legal requirement for dogs to wear a collar with their owner’s contact details on when in a public place. Police also warned that chipped dogs can only be read by a few people, such as vets, and these may not be available at weekends when many dogs get lost.

The borough council say on its website that dog warden services may take 48 hours to collect a found dog, but if your dog has a tag with contact details, it should be simple for a finder to return it.
