Police investigation after teenager offered a lift by stranger

POLICE are investigating after a teenager was allegedly approached by a man in a car in Welwyn Garden City this morning (Friday).

At around 8am a 14-year-old girl walking on Moors Walk was approached by a man in a small silver/ grey coloured car and asked if she wanted a lift.

Police are now appealing for information.

Detective Constable Sonja Townsend, who is investigating the incident, said: “We would like to reassure the people of Welwyn Garden City that this type of incident is a rare occurrence in the town and we are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of what has happened.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen a grey or silver coloured small vehicle acting suspiciously in or around the Hazel Grove area or who may have any information at all to contact us as soon as possible on 101 quoting crime reference number: B1/13/1137.”
