Traffic came to a halt in both directions between Junction 24 for Potters Bar and 25 for Waltham Cross this evening while police dealt with an incident on the M25.

At around 6.10pm Highways England tweeted: “Traffic has been stopped in both directions #M25 btwn J24 #PottersBar and J25 #WalthamCross to allow @metpoliceuk to deal with an incident.

“Long delays on the approach, @HighwaysEAST on scene assisting police.”

Delays of around 40 minutes were felt from Junction 23 for Hatfield and South Mimms and it’s not clear what the incident was at this time.

At around 6.25pm, Highways added: “Traffic released in both directions #M25 between J24 #PotterBar and J25 #WalthamCross. Many thanks to @metpoliceuk for attending, Long delays both ways.”

In a separate incident, one lane was closed clockwise as traffic began moving again at about 6.50pm due to a broken down car.

At 6.50pm Highways tweeted that this car had been removed and all lanes were open.

Congestion is likely to remain until around 7.15pm, see www.trafficengland.com for the latest on the traffic.
