Police have confirmed that a man died after being hit by a train in Welwyn North last night

British Transport Police have confirmed a fatality at Welwyn North railway station last night.

Commuters were left stranded after services were suspended when a man was hit by a train.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “BTP officers were called to Welwyn North Railway Station on Thursday, October 29, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers from the BTP and Hertfordshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to us at 7.58pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. Medics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended but a male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person and inform their next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

“The train involved was the 6.03pm Huntingdon to Kings Cross service. The line was handed back 8.10pm.”
