A 42-year-old man was attacked in Howardsgate last week


A man was kicked and punched after being knocked to the ground by a group of attackers in Welwyn Garden City.

The vicious assault happened on Wednesday last week in Howardsgate, between 7.40pm and 7.50pm.

Police say a Good Samaritan stepped in to save the victim, and have appealed for him to come forward.

A 42-year-old man was attacked by a group of men and women outside Poppins restaurant.

PC Helen Wise, investigating, said: “A member of the public intervened during the assault and managed to get the victim to a place of safety.

“This man didn’t leave any details and I am very keen to trace him as he is a vital witness.

“If you believe this was you please contact me.

“I would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed what happened or has any information on those responsible.”
