Police have appealed for information following the death of a man in his 30s in an A1(M) crash.

The crash happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 7, at around 5.55am today (Tuesday).

The driver, in his late 30s, was in a black Vauxhall Astra VXR which left the road and collided with a crash barrier.

Investigators want to establish why the tragedy happened.

The man, who was the only person in the car, died at the scene from his injuries.

The northbound carriageway was closed for several hours while police, fire and ambulance crews dealt with the incident.

It reopened at around 11.15am.

PC Robert Hauxwell, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle being driven in the area prior to it, to contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can contact the Road Policing Unit by calling the non-emergency number, 101.
