Plea to tackle Hatfield's rat problem

A disgusted mum has criticised the council for not doing enough to tackle Hatfield's rat problem.
Stay-at-home mum Davina Missick, 36, is concerned at the number of rats living around The Link skate park and over the road in front of the parade of shops.
Davina, who lives in the town centre, told the WHT: “One ran across my foot the other day.
“It’s disgusting, especially when there are restaurants in town.
“We were sitting having breakfast in town and they’re there.
“Every time you walk past, you see them there in the skate park. You get some big ones.
“Nothing is being done. It doesn’t matter how much you moan to the council, they say they only have a certain budget.”
A Welwyn Hatfield Councils: “We have not received any reports from residents about rats in Hatfield town centre specifically.
“Our pest control contractor, SDK Environmental Limited, regularly place rat traps with bait down in Hatfield.
“As waste can provide bedding materials for rats, in particular mattresses and sofas, we encourage residents and businesses to report any overflowing refuse and fly-tipping incidents to us as it is important that these incidents are dealt with swiftly.
“Residents and businesses can also help by ensuring that they use the bins provided to dispose of any rubbish and ensure that all lids remain on bins.”
If residents require pest control for either council owned land or domestic properties then they should contact our pest control service.”
