PLANS to build an extra 23 bedrooms plus a new gym and swimming pool at a hotel in WGC will be discussed this week.

A planning application to build the extension at the back of the Best Western Homestead Court Hotel, in Homestead Lane, will go before Welwyn Hatfield Council's planning committee on Thursday.

Applicant Goldcross Commercial has proposed to erect a new three storey building onto the side and rear of the existing hotel, to accommodate 24 bedrooms (23 new bedrooms plus an existing one), a function room, a swimming pool and a gymnasium.

So far, the council has received five representations from residents opposing the scheme.

They centre on concern over an increase in noise pollution, traffic and overspill from the hotel car park, as well as infringing on residents privacy and a loss of sunlight once the extension is complete.

But despite the opposition, the council has recommended the application for approval.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm at the council chamber at Campus West, WGC.
