The owners of a large Welwyn Garden City hotel are looking to expand it.

Whitbread Group Plc has applied to Welwyn Hatfield Council to build a 24-bed extension to the Premier Inn in Stanborough Road.

This would mean an increase from 120 rooms to 144.

One universal access room is included in the extension plans.

It would have an internal door providing easy access and accommodation for a carer.

Additional linen rooms have been incorporated into the design on each level of the proposed three storey building.

The plans include an extension to the reception area to create a new lobby and larger waiting area.

According to the design and access statement, drawn up on behalf of the developer, more car parking would also be provided.

The hotel currently has 151 parking spaces, including eight disabled bays.

Parking would be increased bu 11 spaces to 163 following “minor alterations” to the car park.

An additional disabled bay would be added to serve the additional universal access room.

The scale of the proposed extension is three storeys to match the existing hotel.
