Plans have been revealed for the future of Welwyn Garden City’s Howard Centre, as Sports Direct is relocated.

Sports Direct is relocating its branch in Welwyn Garden City from the upper to the lower mall of the Howard Centre.

The store will be opening in the ex-Wallis and Miss Selfridge units on the ground floor, opening to the public on Sunday November 1.

Paul Haynes, centre manager said: “As part of our ongoing improvements to the Howard Centre to attract new retailers to the town, the existing Sports Direct, YMCA and Crownhill Furniture unit will form part of a new anchor store.

“The works for creating the new large unit will commence next month.

“The brand’s offer of affordable sportswear is a great draw for family shoppers and we’re pleased that we have been able to relocate them during this period of change within the centre.”
