A borough council planning committee backed submitting the Draft Local Plan to Government without any significant changes.

The Cabinet Housing and Planning Panel (CHPP) supported the proposals to build around 12,000 houses by 2032, which sparked a backlash in the council’s two-month consultation last year.

Hundreds of respondents criticised aspects of the plan, but no major changes were recommended by officers before the committee voted it through last night.

The recommendation to press ahead will now go before the Cabinet on April 4, before Full Council finally votes on April 10.

If approved, the Local Plan would then go to the Secretary of State for assessment.
