One of the borough’s most historic pubs is set to begin a new chapter in its life.

The Waggoners, in picturesque Ayot Green, will soon have a new marquee to add to its existing facilities.

Its opening, due next month, will pave the way for a host of additional activities at the 400-year-old building. The marquee will be able to accommodate 80 guests sitting down and 120 for a standing reception.

Owner Laurent Brydniak said it would prove an ideal venue for events ranging from weddings and private dinners to wakes and corporate gatherings.

He is also planning to stage wine dinners, murder mystery evenings and magic nights.

The Waggoners already boasts a cosy bar and restaurant.

Laurent has a number of other changes up his sleeve including Monday mussel lunches with five different types, on top of the existing bar, a la carte and table d’hôte menus.
