FURTHER backing has poured in for a WHT Your Post Office Needs You campaign against the closure of 2,500 branches nationwide.

With Tory MP Grant Shapps already on board, Welwyn Hatfield's Lib Dems have joined the quest to attempt to keep all of Times Territory's post offices open.

With a decision on which branches are set to shut to be made in July, a group headed by party leader Tony Skottowe presented reporter Ben Griffiths with around 800 signatures against the closures.

Talking to the WHT outside the Handside post office on Marsden Road, WGC Mr Skottowe said: "The post office is central to the community and politics aside this is a big issue," he said.

"How can they close these post offices when people obviously feel so passionately about it?

"We are well behind the campaign."

The trio of Lib Dems also included prospective parliamentary candidate Paul Zukowskyj and former councillor Nigel Quinton.

Mr Zukowskyj questioned why there was a cull of a service such as the post office amid announcements that Welwyn Hatfield will house a further 10,000 homes.

He said: "We don't feel they should close any branch.

"It does not add up, 10,000 new homes, 30,000 more people but no services.
