This week’s winner of Pet of the Week is Scruffy by name, scruffy by nature, Hatfield pooch who helps his owner with her mental health.

Nine-year-old Scruffy, who still acts like a puppy, lives with his owner Martine Underwood, who suffers from anxiety.

Martine said: “If I didn’t have Scruffy, I probably wouldn’t get out of bed in the mornings.

“But having another life to look after who is totally dependant on me to survive, is an amazing feeling.

“He gets me out the house for long cold muddy walks. People stop me, ask if they can pet him, and ask all about him.”

The little fella has gained the nickname ‘Kangaroo’ because he doesn’t stop running or jumping around.

He’s also described as a very loyal dog who adores people and just wants to say hello to everyone he sees.

Martine added: “I can talk to him about anything and he doesn’t judge me.

“He comforts me with hugs, and lots of kisses.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better friend, or companion.”
