Pet of the Week: Grieving Welwyn Garden City pooch
This week's Pet of the Week is a Welwyn Garden City pooch who proves that dogs do grieve.
Meet five-year-old Shih Tzu Buster, who lives in Uplands with his human mum Eirwen Smith.
In September 2017 Eirwen’s husband Eric died following a number of health complications and the pooch grieved “terribly”.
Eirwen described how the little guy and Eric were inseparable and how Buster is only just starting to act like himself again.
As Eric used a mobility scooter he would often take Buster out in it but due to living in a hilly area the pooch much preferred to ride on his lap.
Eirwen said: “The neighbours would always tell us how funny it looked that while out on a walk Buster would prefer to sit on my husband’s lap.”
Buster is described as a well behaved dog, however his favourite pastime is to destroy anything and everything made out of plastic.
Eirween, who has found great company in Buster since Eric’s death, added: “He loves to chew pencils and will rob them from you when you’re trying to write.”
