A dog was thrown into a wall, kicked and suffocated by a Welwyn Garden City man, a court heard last week.
Barry John Garside-Neville picked up his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ruby, and threw her against a wall “so the dog dropped to the floor” according to a witness statement.
He then kicked the animal and also blew into its nose, which could have potentially suffocated the dog
The 29-year-old was temporarily living in Blythway, when he carried out the cruel acts on June 16, 2013.
Police seized the pet on June 21 and in an interview with the RSPCA Garside-Neville said “he had given the dog a little tap on the a*se after she pi**ed on the sofa”.
When the dog was examined after the seizure, it was also found to have a “severe skin condition” which caused alopecia and would have left the animal “very itchy”.
They also found “a fairly recent cigarette burn on the muzzle about one centimetre diameter and a similar lesion on the shoulder”.
Speaking on behalf of the RSPCA Mark Jones said: “This animal had been caused suffering unnecessarily.”
Garside-Neville, who is unemployed and currently living in Hall Farm Road, Gaton, Kings Lynn, was “found guilty in absence” after he failed to attend court.
He was found guilty of failing to ensure the needs of his dog were properly met and causing unnecessary suffering.
But when interviewed by police last year he denied all charges.
Ruby is now living with foster carers but is yet to be rehomed.
Garside-Neville, who spat and swore as he left court, is on bail and will be sentenced on March 14 at St Albans Magistrates Court.
