TWO friends who stepped in after a girl was punched were allegedly attacked with pepper spray.

The group of teenagers were assaulted while walking home from a funfair at Stanborough Lakes in WGC.

The 15- and 16-year-olds boys and girls claim they were approached by two older teenagers who punched one of the girls.

The injured girl and those who were sprayed received treatment by ambulance staff at the scene.

Police closed Stanborough Road in WGC at 10.40pm on Thursday to search for weapons for around half-an-hour.

Two 17-year-olds were arrested on suspicion of assault.

One, from Edmonton, was also arrested for possession of a firearm - a gas canister.

The other, from Enfield, was arrested for possession of a weapon - a knife.

Both were released on bail until May 18.
