A 73-YEAR-OLD man, who confronted a man posing to be a water company official, prevented his house from being burgled.

The conman claimed to be from the water board as he tricked his way into the property without showing any identification.

The offender engaged the victim in conversation before leaving the property empty handed.

Police are now appealing for information about the distraction burglary, which happened between 5pm and 5.40pm on Tuesday.

The suspect is described as white with a slight tanned complexion and square features, aged between 35 and 40, 5ft 10in and of a slim build.

He had short black hair, which was pushed forward at the front and he was clean shaven.

He was described as wearing a long sleeve buttoned-up white shirt with black vertical stripes.

It is possible the suspect was accompanied by another man, but he was not seen by the victim.
