A PENSIONER died after accidentally falling down the stairs, a coroner has ruled.

John Padbury, of Beehive Green, Welwyn Garden City, was found on the morning of July 4 by a neighbour who had come to help him with household chores.

He was found at the bottom of his stairs with a head injury.

It is thought he died sometime during the night of June 27.

Post-mortem results revealed the 69-year-old former doctor suffered from ischaemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus and hypertension.

A doctor said a subdural haematoma was the cause of death.

Edward Thomas, chief coroner, said: “I am satisfied Mr Padbury hit his head when he fell.

“It is quite possible the heart disease caused him to fall.”

He added there were no suspicious circumstances and ruled the cause of death was accidental.
