Police, ambulance crews and firefighters were called to a serious crash in Hatfield.

Emergency services were on the scene in Great North Road three miles from the police station last night.

Police were called at 8.57pm after a Mazda was in collision with a Renault truck transporting one car.

The Mazda driver, believed to be in his seventies, had to be rescued from the car.

A police spokeswoman said the roof was cut off by firefighters and the man is believed to have suffered broken ribs.

The spokeswoman said: “We put in road closures from the Welham Green area and Hatfield area.

“Fire had to take the roof off the car.

“The road was re-opened just after 10.30pm.”

The collision is being investigated.
