AN elderly woman has been rushed to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries after a road accident. The 88-year-old pedestrian was in collision with a silver Renault Megane in WGC town centre, outside the John Lewis store, just before noon today

AN elderly woman has been rushed to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries after a road accident.

The 88-year-old pedestrian was in collision with a silver Renault Megane in WGC town centre, outside the John Lewis store, just before noon today (Wednesday).

An emergency care practitioner, two ambulances, a fast response doctor and police attended the scene.

Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “The woman has sustained life threatening injuries after colliding with a car on the roadway.

“Our paramedics and technicians worked closely with the doctor stabilising the patient before conveying her to the QE2 in WGC.”

The car driver, a man, was uninjured.

Brockswood Lane, Bridge Road and part of the Campus roundabout is currently closed to traffic while police carry investigations.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Call 0845 33 00 222 with information.
