ANTISOCIAL students making noise overnight can be reported thanks to extended patrols to coincide with the start of the new university term.

Starting tonight, the three-week scheme, will run in addition to Operation Reprise on Friday and Saturday nights, and is being paid for by the University of Hertfordshire.

Residents should call 0800 111 4484 Sundays to Thursdays, 10pm to 3am, until October 8 to complain.

Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year, call 101 for Operation Reprise.

Councillor Bernard Sarson said: “Last year we received 74 calls during the start of term period, the majority of which were dealt with on site.

“However, seven noise abatement notices were served to deal with the more serious cases.

“By implementing the extended service once again, we hope to address residents’ concerns that start of term boisterousness and ensure that it doesn’t become a cause of distress and upset.”
