Panic Stations in Digswell

However, there’s no emergency. Digswell Players are just staging a very funny play, Panic Stations, in the Village Hall from Wednesday, May 9 to Saturday, May 12.

The farce by Derek Benfield is being directed by Eric Chorley, who is well known locally for his work at the Barn Theatre in Welwyn Garden City and other county theatres.

Chester played by Mark Skrebels – also a member of the Barn Theatre – gets enmeshed in a tangle of misunderstandings and misadventures.

The more he struggles to escape, the worse it gets, as a scantily clad young lady, then his wife, mother-in-law and an army sergeant converge on the house he’s just purchased.

Then there’s a doddery old man with a shotgun, a highly eccentric lady archaeologist, a rough and ready handyman and his dopey wife and frequent bursts of gunfire from down the road.

No wonder Chester panics!

Eric Chorley, a past master of farce, directs this hilarious romp, and the cast features a number of regulars on the Digswell stage – Jane Southey, Elaine Savage, Diana Holt, Sandra Mantella, Peter Holt, Stuart Carnegie and Mike Peacock – as well as newcomer Amy Fischer.

Performances at the Harmer Green Lane venue are at 8pm.
